Lee, SE12 is an area, located in the south-east of London and is part of the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham. The district neighbours Lewisham to the south-east and Eltham to the west. One of the most popular places of interest in the are is the parish church of St. Margaret of Antioch, which was constructed between 1839 and 1841. It’s architect was John Brown and it was built in a very simple Victorian style. The church was famous for being the place where three Astronomers Royal were buried. In the past, the manor of Lee was part of Blackheath and was later merged with Lewisham.
At that time, Lee was located on Lee High Road, which is today part of Lewisham. Modern Lee is positioned on the Burnt Ash Hill road and Lee Railway station. In the Domesday book, the district is described as a small open land, which later became home to a small number of houses. The area saw a significant development in 1866 when the Lee station was opened there. In the middle of the 19th century, the Leegate shopping centre was established in the district, which was later replaced by the Sainsbury’s market.
